For The Dying, A Vinyl Offer of Immortality

And on the other end of the music spectrum… yesterday we dealt with music for babies.  Today we turn to music for the dead.  Literally.  A British company called And Vinyly will turn your remains into vinyl when you die. Or if you’re not dead yet you can have a body part pressed into vinyl.  [...]

Your Mama Don't Dance and Your Daddy Don't Rock and Roll

There’s a new CD out for parents who are afraid to sing to their babies.  Yes, afraid.  I had no idea there was a market for such a thing, let alone hordes of parents who fear their baby’s stinging disapproval. From the website, Sing to Your Baby: In thousands of family concerts over more than [...]

My Favorite Band of All Time

I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much talent on one stage, that’s right I’m talking about Korean boy band K.R.Y.  First off you have to commend the genius of covering Paper Lace’s The Night Chicago Died.  And then to do a live Western theme.   First Sancho Panza pops up out of the floor, [...]

$40,000 And Bieber Still Didn't Win A Grammy

Last Sunday, hip-hop marketing executive Steve Stoute took out a $40,000 ad in the New York Times calling out the Recording Academy (NARAS) for being out of touch with the mainstream and failing to give Grammy awards to such hipper acts as Eminem and Justin Bieber. What Stoute fails to understand is that the Grammys, like the Oscars and the Emmys are peer achievement awards. If the respective academies turned their highest honors into sales contests then Sam Worthington would have a Best Actor Oscar, NCIS would have an Emmy for Best Drama, with Mike and Molly taking home the Best Comedy Emmy. None of that will EVER happen.

Things I Miss About The 20th Century, Album Covers

Things I miss about the 20th Century… album covers.  I’m talking the nice big twelve inch or so square pieces of art that were the graphic embodiment of the music contained inside.  Granted most album covers were utilitarian and just helped to identify the enclosed record from the hundreds of other records on the shelf.   [...]

The Fuhrer Likes Kanye West As Much As I Do

Now I never thought I would agree with anything that Hitler ever said or did, but since this is a parody… the normal rules of reality do not apply.  The scene is taken from director Oliver Hirschbiegel rather serious film, “Downfall”. However the subtitles are a fanciful take on what the Fuhrer might have done [...]

The One About Justin Beiber

Holly – 12:09pm Ok, this is priceless too…Justin Beiber is convinced he has street cred: Last November a female fan of teenage sensation Justin Bieber was hospitalized after chaos broke out at an album signing in New York.  Security personnel were overwhelmed when more than 1,000 screaming fans showed up at the Roosevelt Field shopping [...]

Remember When KISS Came to Our High School

We’re coming to your town we’ll help you party down! Wrong band, but life actually imitated art in 1975 when KISS went to the town of Cadillac, Michigan to play Homecoming. Its one of those bizarre feel good stories with grease paint and rock and roll.  The high school football team got on a win [...]

Bully Rapper Axed By Her Majesty's Government

I don’t know any of the people involved, but this did make me laugh since the whole thing takes place at the intersection of celebrity, irony, and vanity.  Apparently Dappy, star of the UK hip hop band N-Dubz has incredibly thin skin. BBC Radio 1 listener Chloe Moody texted The Chris Moyles Show while the [...]
