Oh, Facebook thank you for bring two star-crossed young people in South Wales together. Leah Gibbs, 23, was looking for love online. 21-year-old Adam Minton was secretly looking for something different– a getaway driver.
The two decided to go out on a date after meeting on Facebook. Gibbs’ plan was to spend an evening watching a DVD and getting to know Minton. “I thought I’d be ending the night in Adam’s arms. Instead, he had landed in the long arms of the law and I was facing jail.
That’s right.
Robber and unsuspecting getaway driver met on Facebook
When Minton arrived for the date, he asked her to give him a lift to Ladbrokes, a nearby betting parlor, and she agreed to wait outside in the car, thinking he was placing a bet.
Minutes later Minton ran out wearing a black bandanna, holding a knife and a bag full of cash. He leapt into her car and screamed: “Go, Go, Go.’
She drove back to his house, but as his personality had changed and he had become rude towards her, Gibbs decided the date was over.
Just as Minton was trying to coax her into the house, the police arrived and they were both arrested.
Mother-of-two Leah spent a night in the cells and was only free when Minton, admitted he had acted alone. He confessed making off with £245.
Minton, who has a record for violent crime, admitted robbery and said he had amassed a £2,000 drug debt through a chronic cocaine addiction.
After the case Leah said: “It was a date from hell. I’m grateful he told the police I knew nothing of the robbery, but still bitter he involved me.’
‘I’m not a bad person. I was duped. It could have happened to anyone.’
