Fall is here as are what seems to be hundreds of new shows. I was dizzy and my DVR was glut for choices. Then I started watching some of them… um did you really expect me to watch this s#!t? Now I’m hard pressed to name even four new shows that have kept my interest past the premiere.
First off, Lone Star, is already canceled after just two episodes. I don’t even know where to begin on what was wrong with the show. I just hope they exorcise any persons involved in the making of this crapfest. I can’t, with a clear conscience watch a show about a guy scamming two wives, a father-in-law and a cast of others. Oh and it’s about the oil industry complete with geology reports and driving around Texas. Um, the reason people watched Dallas was for the drunken belligerent women and the men they tried to shoot.
I’m not to keen on The Event either. I trouble watching shows based on premises that really aren’t designed for a long standing show format. That why I never watched How I Met Your Mother. I mean, are we ever going to meet the mother? And if why can’t we meet her and be done with it. Why must these children listen to their father drone on and on about the random women he dated and his kooky friends. Although I do love Neal Patrick Harris and most of the cast.
Eventually they’ll have to tell us what the “event” is and explain why it happened and end the show or you drag this out for years like Lost. If you do the latter then anything that happens in the first seasons will be moot. I will be able to catch up, if I so wish by reading the synopsis online and watching the last four shows. Hey, it worked for Lost.
Then there’s Sister Wives. I can’t watch polygamists for the same reason I can’t join a swingers club. It’s better to watch the pretty pretend people from a safe distance than watch the dumpy real people. I’ve got HBO. I can already watch Big Love and porn all by myself. If you’ve ever seen any episode of Real Sex involving ANY swinger group you know what I am talking about. If not, just trust me. It’s not pretty.
On the other end of the stick, I love, love, love Boardwalk Empire. What’s not to love? You’ve got Steve Buscemi, Kelly Macdonald and even Dabney Coleman. Absolutely everything about this show is great from the sets to the script to the costumes. Everyone on this show is fabulous.
I also really dig Hawaii Five-O. You can reboot a show and still be true to the bits that everyone loves. They didn’t even cock up the opening music and credits. Outlaw is a lot more fun than I thought it would be. I also rediscovered my crush on Jimmy Smits is still pretty strong. I can totally see restraining orders in my future.
I know I am forgetting some of the other new shows I have given a shot. Maybe that’s for the best. I’ll be glad when I have thinned the herd enough to catch up on my Netflix queue.
