A ‘cannibal’ prisoner told a French court how he murdered a fellow inmate and ate one of his lungs ‘because he gave me a dirty look’. Nicolas Cocaign, 38, is facing life in jail for the murder and torture of Thierry Baudry, 41, in the cell they shared in the French city of Rouen.
Cocaign, who admits the charges but claims diminished responsibility becasue he was suffering from psychiatric problems at the time. He admitted initially attacking Baudry over a row about personal hygiene at the start of the first day of his trail at Rouen criminal court.
Angry about the way Baudry kept blocking the toilet they shared with paper, Cocaign confronted him in January 2007 and was met with a ‘dirty look which was very aggressive’. The two started fighting, with Cocaign punching Baudry at least a dozen times in the face and stomach, before stabbing him with a pair of scissors.

Cocaign, a married father of two who was facing armed robbery charges, then suffocated Baudry with a trash bag before starting to eat him. While Cocaign initially claimed that he was fascinated by the ‘inner workings of Baudry’s personality’ and ‘wanted to take his soul’, he later admitted that he was ‘curious to see what he tastes like’. Neither one of those excuses sounds good if you’re trying to prove that you’re “all better now”: I wanted to take his soul, no wait on second thought what does he taste like!?
According to court records he first tried a bit Baudry’s raw lung – mistaking it for a segment of heart – after snapping a rib to cut it out. Cocaign then fried the rest of the lung with onions, olive oil, salt and pepper on a portable camping stove which the prisoners were able to use.
Ummm? Why do the prisoners have access to scissors and cooking supplies? I get that the French are into food, but allowing them to make their own meals? Shouldn’t prison be a little more challenging than a stint on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here?

I used to make fun of those women who write to and/or marry guys on death row but really, I think this guy may be THE ONE for me. He doesn’t put up with jerks who muck up the plumbing. He tries to discuss problems before escalating them to violence and cannibalism. He cares about personal hygiene. He doesn’t believe in waste. He cooks and I’m guessing cleans. He’s French. I wouldn’t have to see him all of the time. Where can I write to this guy?
