And here is why I have problems taking China seriously as a First World country… chaining a child to a lamppost.

Its disturbing that the father, even thought that chaining his eight-year to a lamppost made sense. Its more disturbing that sick passersby were actually bidding on the kid.  Its not that America is perfect, with its meth labs, poor white trash, and Philadelphia Phillies fans– but selling your own flesh and blood into slavery!?

It seems that they had gotten past poisoning dog food and green tea exports, now if we can just get them past this.  The father put up a table with a sign on it, giving the youngster’s name and age and boasting of his capacity for hard work.  At least some people seemed to have a conscience and sense of morality. When bidders began to ask how much the boy ate, angry bystanders attacked the father.  Police now have the boy in care in Wuhan, central China.

After being arrested the father told police that, “He has no job, no home and no money. He says he wasn’t interested in money, just finding a home for the boy.”
