Rand Paul really isn’t helping the Tea Party Movement. The Republican U.S. Senate candidate has the name recognition of his father and the wing nuts from the Tea Party to thank for his surprise primary win last week. While basking in the afterglow of his win he decided to stick his foot in his mouth on NPR and politely rail against the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and 1964 Civil Rights Act. He called them an overreach by the federal government.
Then over on ABC’s “Good Morning America” he came out defending the honor of British Petroleum. He again politely railed against the federal government’s assessment of blame for the Deepwater Horizon oil spill off the coast of Louisiana.
“What I don’t like from the president’s administration is this sort of ‘I’ll put my boot heel on the throat of BP.’ I think that sounds really un-American in his criticism of business,” Rand said. “I’ve heard nothing from BP about not paying for the spill. And I think it’s part of this sort of blame game society in the sense that it’s always got to be someone’s fault instead of the fact that sometimes accidents happen.”
True to form and looking to keep herself relevant, Sarah Palin weighed in and defended Paul. Speaking to “Fox News Sunday,” Palin said that Paul was being subjected to the same biased media coverage that marked her run for office, before offering her Tea Party-backed candidate a bit of advice.
“One thing we can learn in this lesson that I have learned and Rand Paul is learning now is don’t assume that you can engage in a hypothetical discussion about constitutional impacts with a reporter or a media personality who has an agenda, who may be prejudiced before they even get into the interview in regards to what your answer may be,” Palin said. “You know, they are looking for the gotcha moment”
Well, maybe the Teabaggers deserve Rand Paul and his naive libertarian “ideals”. Its not like he’ll actually lower the intelligence quotient of the group. We’re talking about people who complain about socialism and fascism, yet they couldn’t define either if their lives depended on it. Which makes this video funnier than it really should be.
