I’m glad there’s video for this one, because I wouldn’t have believed it. I was surprised because things like this usually occur in Florida. Well that’s unfair. The Florida teachers are usually schtupping their students (Debra Lafave, Stephanie Ragusa, Lisa Robyn Marinelli, etc). This was just a lap dance.
Winnipeg high-school teacher Chrystie Fitchner seem to have made her pitch for “Teacher of the Year” honors. In the YouTube clip, Churchill High School students are alternately cheering and jeering over her part in a graphic lap dance that was performed with another teacher at during a pep rally last week.
The Globe and Mail took a rather muted tone to the whole thing: Most educators agree that Ms. Fitchner and her dance partner overstepped the boundaries of professionalism. But some are sympathetic, saying the pressure to look cool in front of students can cloud the judgment of younger teachers.
“There’s a fine line between being friends and being friendly [with students], and it’s so easy to cross that line,” said Heather, a Vancouver school and student support worker. “Kids are so judgmental … so I think some teachers go out of their way to be their friend,” she said.
By that logic, if the kids think Mylie Cyrus is cool AND Mylie uses a stripper pole in her act, ergo I should do a lap dance for the pep rally. Now it makes perfect sense!
