Elizabeth Lambert Displays MMA Skills During Soccer Game

I wasn’t aware that collegiate women’s soccer was now a full contact sport.  But if you watch the on-field antics of Elizabeth Lambert of the University of New Mexico, it is now.  Last Thursday night, Lambert displayed moves more often seen in mixed martial arts tournaments or by NFL linebackers looking to smoke a wide receiver going over the middle.

In her team’s playoff loss to Brigham Young University she pulled hair, tripped, sucker punched, and practically clotheslined opponents.  Like most kids in America the beauty of the world’s most popular sport eluded me– I played soccer in grade school and then got bored.  But from what I remember there are supposed to be referees out there to prevent games from turning into The Octagon.

So BYU wins the game and advances to the finals, while Elizabeth Lambert becomes an ESPN highlight and YouTube sensation for unsportsmanlike conduct of the highest degree.  According to the New Mexico University website, head coach Kit Vela announced today that Elizabeth has been suspended indefinitely for her actions.
