The JSA staff (at this point consisting of myself and the fabulous Holly Comesoftly) made a pilgrimage to the State Fair of Texas a few weeks back.  It was the day of the Texas-OU game so we got to see plenty of long faced OU fans moping about Fair Park as they munched on fried butter and other artery clogging delicacies.

Always there to greet and freak out little kids is the 52 foot tall talking Big Tex.

Who thought that yellow looked good on him?

And speaking of the aforementioned fair delicacies we have foot long corny dogs of dubious shapes.

And then there was the room sculpted in butter in the Creative Arts Pavilion.  Which made me think of that episode of iCarly where the butter sculptures melt.

Is this what Paula Dean's dreams look like?

After the thrill of the Butter Room and various other crafts we headed over to the agriculture building to see cotton and beef jerky displays.  We were then distracted by Fair guide Lila Beauregard who was beginning her lecture on the joys of taxidermy in her native Texas.

After some fried peaches we took the  Texas SkyWay over the Midway with Lurlene and Earl a couple from Buffalo Gap a town just south of Abilene.

We wrapped up our visit to the Fair with bumper cars and checking out the reptile exhibit.
