What is it with, young European guys and trains lately?  First the drunken French kid who fell asleep on train tracks only to have the train race harmlessly overhead.  Now comes news out of German that a 22-year-old journalism student decided to moon the crew of a train when they forced him off for not having a ticket.

His act of naked defiance began with his rear pressed up against the window of a low-slung double-decker train car.  Everything was going fine until his pants got caught in the carriage door of the departing train.

“It’s a miracle he wasn’t badly hurt,” a spokesman for police in the northern city of Bremen said on Monday. “This sort of thing can end up killing you.”

Instead, dangling by his pants, the man got pulled along for almost 200 yards, all the while managing to keep his legs from getting crushed by the wheels of the train.  The impromptu ride ended when a passenger noticed and pulled the emergency brake. Rescues services were called in,  causing rail services between Bremen and Hamburg to be suspended for over an hour, delaying 23 other trains.

The idiot — unharmed except for cuts and bruises — now faces charges of dangerous interference in rail transport, insulting the train staff, and may face sizeable a compensation claim for the delays he caused, police said.  “He was full of remorse when I talked to him,” the spokesman said. “And he advised others not to try the same thing.”

I don’t advise it, but if you must then do it from a safe distance like these folks in Laguna Niguel.
