Guinness Heiress Goes Wild, Fights Law And Wins

Last March, Clare Irby a descendant of the Guinness brewing family was on a Kingfisher Airlines flight from Bangalore to London. After a reported ten glasses of wine, the single mom was too busy to take care of her son who cried, ran around the plane and who went for some time with a dirty diaper until the flight attendants took over caring for the child.

Ms. Irby was, instead getting busy with Daniel Melia who was himself busy kissing her and fondling her breasts while his girlfriend, Sarah Hannon, was sleeping near the back of the cabin. Ms. Irby was also seen by fellow passengers hiking up her skirt to show her thong.  Later she was sprawled across four seats. After a few hours of this nonsense the crew finally cut her off.

Saloni Khanni, the flight crew chief, later testified that our little heiress made her dismay for the new situation known by using finger gestures and using the call button to summon crew member for a verbal smackdown. Upon landing both Irby and Melia were taken into custody.  Charges were later filed against Irby for “flight abuse”.  Which I can only assume is a euphemism for being a belligerent drunk on an airplane and arguing with the flight crew.

The trial which ended this week found Irby not guilty.   During the trial, Ms Irby told the court she felt sorry for passengers who had sat next to her.

She said: “I personally feel sorry for people who sit by me because I know I’m louder than the average person, because I have a child who I care for and have to make sure he behaves as well as he can.”

Legal observers said she could not be convicted of a crime in Britain that was not over British airspace. She had been cut off five hours before that. Her reason for such an outburst, which she denies and somehow proved in a court of law, is that she was sleep deprived and drank on an empty stomach.  Ms Irby, also rejected allegations she had flirted with a Daniel Melia or had revealed her underwear while trying to get changed.

While Clare Irby stuck to her story all these months.  Daniel is singing a different tune telling the  Mirror: “I’ve lost the greatest love of my life for a few moments of drunken madness. I had beer goggles on and it was a stupid one-off. I’ve humiliated my girlfriend and lost the best thing in my life.”

And he says the next time he saw Clare – standing in the dock of a London courtroom – was like the cringe-making “day after the school disco where you just don’t want to see the person you kissed”.
