Joan Collins Wants Her Shoulder Pads Back and other Emmy Observations

So I caught the Emmys last night.  I haven’t really watched them in a while but I love Neil Patrick Harris.  He did not disappoint.  He was dapper as could be.  The musical number opening the show was cute and clever and not too long.

Usually nothing much happens at the Emmys.   It’s no MTV show.   No one seems to be as drunk or as high or is a comeplete ass… oh wait, maybe just one. Several awards nominees had fun with well, being nominees.   Several categories had writers, directors, and producers either give some comic advice or be listed in a fake news setting.  I particularly loved the Conan O’Brien deleting the nominees from his show off his Facebook page.

One of the first awards presented was for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy, all the nominees were sporting humorous eyewear from novelty 2009 glasses to coke bottle eyeglasses to an eye patch and so on, well all except Vanessa Williams who just mouthed a rather curt “no” when the camera panned to her. When did Vanessa Williams become a humorless bitch?

Kristin Chenoweth gave a choked up thank you that was very sweet where she mentioned that it was fellow nominee Amy Poehler’s idea.  I just loved her dress by the way.   There seemed to be a bit of overkill on the spray tan front.  It wasn’t so much in the oompa loompa way so much as the face doesn’t match the body.

There were two dress I could have lived without.  Leighton Meester had huge wads of something on her shoulders. Normally such things would make me want to say Joan Collins wants her shoulder pads back, but lets face it, Joan Collins has better things to worry about than spectacularly bad head buffers. She’s got a forty something husband. That alone is going to take a big chunk of day.

I didn’t like Blake Lively’s dress either. I found it very unsettling. I was having trouble getting my head around the idea of an 8o pound girl with that much cleavage in a dress that low.  Maybe it’s just me.
