Just when you thought the Republicans couldn’t shoot themselves in the foot, leg, arm, face anymore… here comes Rep. Peter King. The Long Island New York U.S. congressman and one-time senate hopeful has just taken a stand against… a dead pop icon?

OK, I admit, I have been avoiding TV news outlets for the last several days. I really don’t care who gets the kids, the house, the monkey, the carousel, or the ceramics greyhounds. I did think Michael Jackson was a bit a a weirdo and that something was amiss with his relationship with children. But this week is sooooo not the week to say that.  Especially if your job depends on people liking or at least agreeing with you.  Obviously my job doesn’t.

How could King turn what should have been a simple statement like, “You know what, I’m really sick of all this Michael Jackson coverage. I wish it would stop already.”  Into– “He was a child molester. He was a pedophile. And to be giving this much coverage to him, day in and day out, what does it say about us as a country?”

Is it just me, or did King’s PR guy just try to slit his own wrists.  Of course, King is the same guy who called the AARP a radical organization.

And for my final thoughts on the Michael Jackson front… this morning on the Today Show, a beaming Rob O’Sullivan of Houston, TX could not help but be excited at winning his tickets to the Michael Jackson memorial service. Did I mention that Rob was an unemployed father of three who had no way of going to the service.

He has already listed his tickets online for $15,000.  He explains that he doesn’t “want to be the bad guy.”  His daughter “needs heart surgery” blah blah blah. The money would go to that. I guess I would be more sympathetic if the guy weren’t laughing at his good fortune at winning free tickets  and trying to get $15,000 for them.

Organizers have said that you must show valid ID to claim and use the tickets.  In theory you could only sell or give away one of the pair. Rob said that if he does happen to sell them he will offer the sucker..er…idiot who buys them a conditional refund if they go to the event and can provide proof that they were denied access they will get a refund. Yeah right.

  1. Maybe O’Sullivan can spend some of his imaginary $15,000 on a program from the service. Most of them are going for less than four figures! http://shop.ebay.com/items/__michael-jackson-memorial-program?_trkparms=65%253A12%257C66%253A2%257C39%253A1%257C72%253A1205&_dmpt=Music_Other_Formats&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_sop=16&_sc=1
