Folks, it’s a small corporately sponsored world after all… in Yuanlin, Taiwan the Hau Sheng Hospital has taken to covering nearly every surface possible with Hello Kitty.  Now before you jump to the conclusion, as I did, that it was some sort of Hello Kitty trying to take over the world scenario, think again.   Tsai Tsung-ji, the hospital’s owner, actually contacted Sanrio Co., the maker of Hello Kitty and paid an undisclosed sum for the rights to have blankets, gowns, and even walls emblazoned with the perky feline.

Hello Kitty Maternity Ward

A giant Hello Kitty figure dressed in a pink doctor’s uniform greets visitors in the main lobby, while colorful murals of the feline and her “Dear Daniel” boyfriend are mounted in the recovery rooms for moms, in the central baby room and even on elevator doors.

What do the patients think?

Looking on proudly as his newborn son was wheeled into the baby ward, first-time father Chen Wen-sheng, 24, said coming to the hospital had been the right choice for his family.   “Both my wife and I like Hello Kitty, and we chose this hospital after seeing it on TV,” he said.   “The place is quite pretty, and warm and fuzzy like Hello Kitty should be.”

Where did Tsai Tsung-ji get the inspiration for his Hello Kitty medical center?   He did the makeover at the request of his mother, wife and daughter.   They are REALLY big fans.

Maybe I was neglected as a child.   I remember asking my mom, when she was shopping for a new car if we could get one in red.   She shot me down.   It was just a car.
