I have to admit, I was surprised at the reflexes of the POTUS.  From his standpoint, it would be something of a shock.  He’s spent $600 billion dollars and counting on our 51st state.  We’ve been there almost six years, the people of Iraq should love him.  And all he gets are a couple of size 10 Rockports thrown at his head.

Having seen the video way too many times now, I’m trying to figure out Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki’s reaction.  The first shoe he doesn’t budge, like this is a normal occurrence in one of his press conferences.  The second shoe he half-heartedly tries to deflect– I think he was chosen last for dodgeball in grade school.  And where is the Secret Service in all this?

The LA Times reports that Secret Service officials said, “they were reviewing the episode, including the procedures used by agents guarding Bush during his unannounced visit to Baghdad. But officials said they believed the agents reacted appropriately in a situation where all those present in the room had already undergone intensive security screening.”  Apparently they’re willing to take a bullet, but not a shoe to the face for this guy.

With about a month left Bush should have taken a cue from Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich and kept a low profile.  Here we see Rod taking the back alley to avoid reporters.
