Because someone has the time to do such things, the folks at PNC Wealth Management say that you’ll need $86,609 this year to purchase all of the goods and services in the classic Christmas carol, The 12 Days of Christmas.  Seems awfully steep to me.  Keep in mind the $86,609 is to purchase the stuff repeatedly each day, like in the song.  If you had any sense you would just buy the stuff on one day and only be out $21,080.  Here we go…

Twelve drummers drumming.  Cost: $2,475

  • Is it just to the beat of one drum?  Or is it like that movie Drumline?

Eleven pipers piping.  Cost: $2,285

  • Can we get Scottish Bagpipers?  Gotta love a man in a kilt.

Ten lords a-leaping. Cost: $4,414

  • I don’t understand this one.  Could you really get ten members of the British House of Lords to hop around?

Nine ladies dancing. Cost: $4,759

  • Will this be a cancan thing?  Maybe nine pole dancers?  If they had the Santa hats and fringe it could be tastefully done.

Eight maids a-milking. Cost: $52

  • Its one of the cheapest things on the list, yet one would assume it’s one of the kinkier things.

Seven swans a-swimming. Cost: $5,600

  • They are part of the same family of birds as geese, why do they cost so much more?

Six geese a-laying. Cost: $240

  • See above.  What’s so special about swans!?  If you could find one that laid the golden eggs, then you might be covered on the rings.

Five golden rings.  Cost: $350

  • They never talk about the purity of the golden rings.  Is it supposed to be 14 or 18 carat?  Check with Mr. T, he might be able to loan you some.

Four calling birds.  Cost: $600

  • I’ve heard of mockingbirds used in this verse.  They might be cheaper than the canaries that PNC used for the tally.  Maybe four birds of prey?  It might liven up a dull evening, living out any Ladyhawke fantasies.

Three French hens.  Cost: $30

  • Probably taste like chicken.

Two turtle doves.  Cost: $55

  • That $55 doesn’t cover the need for a car wash after the doves crap all over your car.

And a partridge (Cost: $20) in a pear tree (Cost: $200).

  • I like pears.  The partridge probably taste like chicken, but for $20 I’ll just go to KFC and get a bucket full of Colonel’s seven herbs and spices.

  4. Seriously, nine ladies dancing for over four grand. Pole dancers are not that expensive. OK…maybe in the champagne court but that may also include additional services. But, in the words of William Wordsworth or Chris Rock,”No matter what a stripper tells you, there is no sex in the champagne room.”
