I saw this and just assumed that the phrases would be more annoying.  But I had to take a step back and realize that these are British people making this list.  They are so damn polite as a nation (except when playing football).  I thought I’d see phrases repeated by political candidates in the last two years, as much as I like Chris Berman, “He could go all… the way”, or any type of texting abbreviations (OMG) that people over 40 like to drop when they try to sound cool.

I cribbed these from a book the late great George Carlin wrote eleven years ago.  These phrases are still out there and still annoying, especially in the workplace.

  • From the git-go
  • No brainer
  • No biggie
  • I mean that in the nicest way
  • Born again
  • Sounds like a plan
  • Get with the program
  • You know the drill
  • Nonperforming assets
  • Lean and mean

Oh and anything that Larry the Cable Guy has added to our national lexicon in the last six years.  However, I do have to thank his fellow Blue Collar comedian Ron White for the priceless and highly utilitarian phrase, “You can’t fix stupid.”

This one works for anybody that has to deal with the public in a customer service capacity.  If more people took this to heart, Dr. Phil would be out of a job.

See the list from the eggheads at Oxford.
